South Korean authorities are investigating a $107 million crypto laundering scheme allegedly disguised as legitimate college tuition and medical payments. Prosecutors say the network, run by foreign nationals, used overseas clients paying for education and cosmetic surgery to move funds across borders. The operators allegedly converted foreign currency into cryptocurrency, transferred it into South Korea, and cashed it out through multiple bank accounts, masking illegal forex transactions and evading anti-money laundering controls.
