Jackie Crenshaw, a 61-year-old from East Haven, Connecticut, became trapped in a romance-based cryptocurrency scam after meeting a man online who claimed to guide her investments. Over months, she was persuaded to transfer large sums, including retirement savings, into fake crypto platforms controlled by scammers. The losses left her facing foreclosure and financial ruin. Crenshaw later testified at the Connecticut State Capitol, urging lawmakers to strengthen consumer protections and improve education to prevent similar crypto fraud cases in the future.
