CertiK co-founder Ronghui Gu warns of an “endless war” against crypto hackers, stating that attackers need only find a single vulnerability, while defenders must guard vast, complex systems—a fundamentally asymmetric conflict. In the first half of 2025 alone, nearly $2.5 billion was stolen across 344 incidents, with $1.7 billion lost to wallet compromises and $410 million through phishing. Ethereum was the most targeted, accounting for over $1.6 billion in thefts. Despite improving defenses, Gu cautioned the industry remains vulnerable and urged vigilance, predicting losses in 2026 could still reach the billion-dollar level.
