Kicking off 2024, Metis is making waves, gearing up to launch the first-ever decentralized sequencer. This step is part of Metis’ journey towards a fully decentralized network, and the community is already on board, with over 195,000 contributors participating in community testing season 1. Additionally, Metis has committed 4.6 million METIS to boost adoption of the Metis ecosystem, promising to grant 250,000 METIS this year. Metis is also ramping up efforts around their Liquid Staking Blitz to spark growth in the LSD sector on the Network.
Metis Ecosystem Development Fund: Catalyzing Growth in the Metis Ecosystem
For blockchain developers keen on contributing to the Metis ecosystem, the Metis Ecosystem Development Fund (MetisEDF) has 4.6 million METIS dedicated to accelerating adoption in the ecosystem. The MetisEDF will fund new project deployments, product development for existing dApps, Builder Mining rewards, and sequencer mining. To keep track of the allocation and distribution of the MetisEDF, Metis has launched a Grant Tracker, where users can review the projects that have been granted and allocated. The tracker is on the Metis website. Any project looking to apply for funding can submit their application here.
Metis' Decentralized Sequencer: The Rollout That's Transforming Layer 2
Metis is set to be the first Ethereum Layer 2 rollup with a decentralized sequencer. The community testing of the Metis decentralized sequencer was a solid chance for users to dive in, play around the new and existing dApps on testnet, and collect some rewards. Community testing of the Metis decentralized sequencer has seen remarkable engagement, with over 4 million transactions and 195,000 participants earning a collective 500 million points during Season 1.
Season 2 of community testing ended on Feb 18, 2024, and Season 3 will follow as the final season before the alpha launch on the mainnet.

Liquid Staking Blitz - Fueling the future of LSD
Metis has launched the Liquid Staking Blitz (LSB) as part of its ongoing initiative to drive the growth of Liquid Staking Derivatives (LSDs) within its ecosystem. This initiative leverages the EDF to support LSD platforms and products and aims to foster innovation while ensuring the community's direct benefit from sequencer revenue. The introduction of LSB marks a significant step towards a more inclusive and rewarding blockchain ecosystem. Currently, LSD platforms can sign up for MetisEDF to take advantage of this opportunity.
