This Student's Selfie NFTs Are Now Worth Millions
A college student in Indonesia, Ghozali Ghozalo has released a viral NFT collection that received massive trading volumes in a few days.
The NFT collection of Ghozali’s includes the selfies that he photographed for four years.
His profile on OpenSea says, “I took photos of myself since I was 18 to 22 years old (2017 – 2021)…it’s really a picture of me standing in front of the computer day by day.”
Although the collection only has 933 images indicating that Ghozali’s photos do not cover every single day of the past four years.
Ghozali had taken these selfies to use them in a school commencement video, but later, he decided to post them on OpenSea as a series of non-fungible tokens and sell them on the NFT marketplace at the start of this week.
The collection is named “Ghozali Everyday.” The collection seems to be a reference to Beeple’s “Everydays: The First 5000 Days,” an NFT that sold at Christie’s for $69 Million in March 2021.
Ghozali launched the collection on Sunday, pricing each NFTs at $3. Since then, the price of each NFT surged to 0.4 ETH ($1,350). The collection is on track to surpass $1 million in volume, as 277 ETH or $935,975 in sales have taken place so far.
The Indonesian celebrity chef Arnold Poernomo, the Indonesian sneaker and streetwear entrepreneur Jeffry “Jejouw” Jouw, and various other members of the decentralized finance community started promoting Ghozali’s NFT collection.
Poernomo claims that he and other investors helped Ghozali to earn extra income after the collection was semi-jokingly “shilled” by Jouw. They are also helping him by running a Discord forum for Ghozali.
Additionally, Poernomo highlighted that he “didn’t just change [Ghozali’s] life” by promoting the collection, but buyers also gained 78,000% on their investment.
