Indian Government To Introduce New Crypto Bill After Cabinet Approval
The Indian government will introduce a new Crypto Bill in Parliament. The bill will be tabled after Cabinet approval in Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session. The bill is likely to differ from the one drafted in February 2021.
The latest updates have given much clarity to the Indian Crypto community. In the previous week, panic and confusion gripped the Indian Crypto market as the wordings of the Crypto bill were the same as last year.
Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that there are speculations in the market that the government is just creating a hype of Crypto bill much like the last time, and they may not come up with. However, Sitharaman cleared the rumor and said that the bill has also included the previous bill’s research and updated it to fulfill the present state, turning it into a recent and improved bill.
Sitharaman said, “Last time there was a bill proposed but subsequently there were other dimensions which in the real time we thought it was important to bring into the bill. That bill had been reworked and in a way the bill which is coming now is a new but never mind the work done on that have all been taken onboard…Earlier attempt was definitely to come up with a bill, but later because rapidly a lot of things had to come into play, we had started working on a new bill and this is the bill which is now being proposed. once the cabinet clears it, it will come into the house.”
The Finance Minister also talked about Crypto ads. Sitharaman pointed out the issue of banning the “misleading” Crypto ads by Cryptocurrency Exchanges. Currently, the government has not come up with a pro or anti-ban stance. However, the current guidelines and regulations provided by the Advertisements Standards Council of India (ASCI) are studied, and only after deep research, the government will plan out a strategy.
