Argentina Open to Adopt Bitcoin, Says President Fernandez
The President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez, disclosed his readiness to open the country’s economy to Bitcoin in an interview with a local media outlet.
Despite the known downsides, he said, “I don’t want to go too far out on a limb, but there is no reason to say no. Perhaps that is a good path to take.” He considers Bitcoin as a hedge over inflation, a quality that the country’s struggling economy could use at this time.
“It is a global debate, and I must confess that it is a topic that I approach with caution. In my case, there is caution because of how unfamiliar it is, and because it is hard to understand how this fortune materializes,” he said, referring to the controversies surrounding Bitcoin.
Fernandez concluded by saying Bitcoin’s adoption is being limited because nations are not giving the asset a chance based on the market misfortunes. Regardless of this, he asserts that Bitcoin is worth considering.
Interest in cryptocurrencies has increased considerably since El Salvador entered the Bitcoin market by adopting the dominant asset as its legal tender. Similarly, other countries like Paraguay have shown similar interest in Bitcoin and cast votes to make Bitcoin a legal tender back in June. Initially, their goal was to make it a legal tender. However, later, Paraguay decided to create a friendly regulatory environment for Bitcoin. Nevertheless, many Bitcoin supporters still consider it a big win, especially seeing the many hurdles Bitcoin has gone through with the regulatory crackdown.
Meanwhile, China has raged war on Bitcoin, and the United States is yet to clarify its stance on Bitcoin and other digital currencies. On the other hand, developing countries like India and Nigeria will create proper regulatory guidelines favouring Bitcoin due to the increasing trading volume.
El Salvador has brought a lot of attention to Bitcoin. It imitates institutional investors like Tesla and MicroStrategy influencing their counterparts to consider adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets. Undoubtedly, Bitcoin has a chance of becoming a legal tender in other countries if they want outstanding results.
